Barron’s appoints Goodman, Hirschhorn and Roosevelt as editorial directors

Barron’s Group publisher Almar Latour sent out the following announcement on Monday:

Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce three key leadership roles at Barron’s.

Beverly Goodman is appointed Editorial Director, Investing and Asset Management. In this expanded role, Beverly will oversee news for Barron’s Advisor, ensuring we deliver dynamic, insightful coverage for this critically important Barron’s audience. She will continue to direct coverage of fund investing, a topic of intense interest to advisors and a broad cross-section of Barron’s readers.

Dan Hirschhorn is appointed Editorial Director, Digital. Dan will be responsible for maximizing and optimizing our reach across digital platforms. He will direct our planning, editing and publishing efforts to build on the Barron’s newsroom’s success in setting new records for audience reach the past two months. He will continue to oversee the news editing desk.

Phil Roosevelt is appointed Editorial Director, Magazine. Phil will oversee editing and production of the print magazine, working closely with editors to maximize the impact of our journalism for our loyal and engaged print readership. Phil’s expertise and rich and nuanced understanding of Barron’s and its audience is invaluable as we continue to enhance our print product.

Beverly has been an editor at Barron’s for eight years. As Managing Editor, Investing, she enhanced coverage of mutual funds, ETFs and retirement, including expansion of weekly and quarterly special sections. Beverly has played an important role in the expansion of Barron’s Roundtable, tackling topics such as emerging markets, income investing, ETFs and energy. She is a frequent speaker at conferences and on television. Beverly’s roles prior to joining Barron’s include managing editor Fidelity Investments; investing editor at Smart Money; and fund, personal finance and tax editor at TheStreet.com.

Dan joined Barron’s last year as Managing Editor, News, overseeing our daily publishing and news planning. Prior to joining Barron’s, Dan was Director of News for Time and Time Inc., where he built Time’s first continuous news desk and expanded it to publish content across half-a-dozen Time Inc. brands, including Time, Fortune and Money. He got his start as a political reporter, first covering local politics in his native Philadelphia, and later congressional and presidential campaigns for Politico, among others. During evenings, Dan keeps one eye on Barron’s and the other on whatever bit of Philly sports is on TV.

Phil has been Managing Editor of the magazine for seven years, coordinating daily operations and leading editing and production of the magazine. He joined Barron’s in 2003 as an assistant managing editor, overseeing several senior writers covering a variety of industries. He was instrumental in launching our advisor rankings and was the first editor of Penta. Before Barron’s, he was editor in chief of American Banker and a founding editor of a Time Inc. tech magazine. Phil holds what is believed to be a record — and ongoing — 129 consecutive on-time closes for the magazine.

Dan and Phil will report to Bob Rose. Beverly will report to Bob for core Barron’s coverage and to Jack Otter for Barron’s Advisor content.

Please join us in congratulating Beverly, Dan and Phil on their new roles.
