AP looking for financial writers and editors

Kate Butler at the Associated Press says that the wire service has decided to expand its markets coverage and has some reporting, graphic artists and editing jobs available as part of that.

She wrote in an e-mail, “I thought you might be in contact with people who might interested. If so, please feel free to pass this info on. If anyone is interested, they should contact AP’s HR department. Details and info at www.ap.org.”

Here’s the basic description:

Writes news for a new financial and data content product that The Associated Press is developing for newspapers and their Web sites. Content will be pegged to breaking financial, economic and company news. Content will be explanatory and analytical and will use graphics heavily. The goal of Money & Markets will be to inform readers about markets news and trends and help them make investment decisions. One of these two openings will be supervisory and will involve editing as well as reporting.

Qualifications:

Must have deep knowledge of the financial markets and the economy. We’re seeking critical thinkers who can anticipate news that will affect the markets and produce coverage of breaking news that is explanatory and analytical. Must be able to identify market trends and develop investor themes of broad interest to readers. Must be a strong reporter who is thorough and fast. Must be an excellent writer who can produce copy that is clear, concise and accurate. Copy will appear in “story graphics” so tight writing is a must. Candidate must have good communication and people skills. Must be a team player and a self-starter.
