Ante leaving Wall Street Journal

Spencer Ante, a senior special writer at The Wall Street Journal covering technology, is leaving the paper for a tech company.

In an email to his colleagues, Ante wrote:

Before the dog days of summer hit, I wanted to let you know that I’m leaving WSJ. It’s been a great ride and I learned a lot over the last 4+ years. As a longtime competitor to the WSJ I knew there was something special about this place, and I’m honored I came to learn that operating system from the inside.

Collaborating with a talented group of colleagues around the world during a time of unprecedented change in business and technology made it an even richer experience.

I’ve decided to leave to join a startup and pursue other entrepreneurial ventures. After many years of reporting, writing, editing and packaging the news, my aim now is to help create some of that news as part of the tech industry.

Prior to joining the Journal in 2010, Ante spent many years in finance and tech reporting, including stints at Bloomberg, Business Week magazine, TheStreet.com, Wired and PC World.

Ante got his undergraduate degree in business from Indiana University, and a masters in journalism from UC Berkeley.

He is the author of “Creative Capital: Georges Doriot” and the “Birth of Venture Capital,” published in 2008, and is a veteran of the Wall Street Journal’s softball team.
