The New York Post’s Keith Kelly follows up on the first defection from Conde Nast Portfolio with Laurie Cohen returning to the Wall Street Journal three months after she left to join the start-up business magazine.
Kelly wrote, “The Portfolio brass is insisting that all is cool and calm as the biggest magazine launch in years rumbles toward the publication of its first issue in late April.
“However, there have been other signs of strain. One prospective hire said that after talking to Lipman and two of her top lieutenants, the prospect came away with the feeling that they were talking about three different magazines.
“[Editor in chief Joanne] Lipman insisted Cohen’s departure was for personal reasons.
“‘Laurie is a brilliant journalist and a good friend,’ Lipman said. ‘It was true yesterday and it is true today. There is no drama here.’
“She also insists ‘there is a very clear vision of what the magazine is. That’s why people come here.'”
