ACBJ to launch higher education newsletter

American City Business Journals, which operates business news operations in 45 markets around the country, is starting an email newsletter focused on the business of higher education.

The newsletter will be written by Hilary Burns and will be part of ACBJ’s National Observer, which launched in April as a daily newsletter.

It will start on Sept. 28 and come out twice a week.

The newsletter will cover competition and strategies, classroom and online learning trends and other topics.

Burns was previously the associate editor of the Boston Business Journal, doing data-driven journalism and digging into stories and special projects in different industries. Burns also covered community banking at American Banker. She previously covered banking, technology and entrepreneurship at the Charlotte Business Journal.

The National Observer was a daily newspaper operated by Dow Jones & Co. from 1962 to 1977.  And former ACBJ CEO Ray Shaw helped start the National Observer during his time at Dow Jones.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
