ACBJ reflects on Ray Shaw

Erik Spanberg of the Charlotte Business Journal profiles American City Business Journals chairman Ray Shaw, who died Sunday.

Spanberg writes, “Last month, Shaw was ushered into the main conference room of ACBJ headquarters and greeted with applause from more than 350 employees. They were there for a surprise celebration of the chairman’s 20th anniversary leading the company.

“With his wife looking on, Shaw offered a heartfelt speech of appreciation. And, in characteristic fashion, he quickly turned his attention to the future.

“‘We’ve built a great company; we’re going to continue building a great company,’ he told the group. ‘And the reason we’ve been able to is because of all of you and all of your colleagues around the country. I love what you’re doing and I love what we’re building.'”
