
Wall Street Journal reporter Ben Foldy has moved to its investigations team.
He often writes about fraud, financial crime, cryptocurrency and corporate malfeasance. He also writes about short sellers and whistleblowers.
Before this role, Foldy covered the automotive industry from Detroit, with a focus on safety, federal policy, startups and the electric transition. In this role, he covered allegations of fraud involving several startups as well as breaking news on new investments in multibillion-dollar battery plants and the industry’s struggles through the Covid-19 pandemic. He also reported on concerns at Carvana before the company’s decline.
In 2022, Foldy reported and hosted the second season of The Journal’s “Bad Bets” podcast, focused on the rise and fall of Nikola founder Trevor Milton.
He worked for Bloomberg News and the Financial Times before joining the Journal in 2019. He is a graduate of the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York and holds a B.A. and M.A. from McGill University.
