Wall Street Journal reporter Ben Eisen has signed a contract with Norton to write a book about the mortgage market.
The book, tentatively called “The American Dream Machine,” will focus on the rise and reign of the 30-year, fixed rate mortgage, shedding light on how the country’s most important financial instrument operates.
Eisen is the deputy personal finance bureau chief for The Journal in New York. He is an editor and reporter on the team that covers everything related to people and their money.
His articles focus on the people who power the American economy and its financial system. He has traveled the country to report on families trying to obtain homeownership and hold on to it; small-time real estate investors and business owners; and the leaders of powerful financial institutions.
Previously, Ben was a banking and finance reporter. He led coverage of some of the nation’s largest consumer banks, connecting the decisions inside large financial institutions to the individuals they impact most. He was part of the team that covered the banking crisis of 2023.
