WSJ announces hires, promotions

Wall Street Journal editor in chief Emma Tucker sent out the following on Tuesday:

I am pleased to announce the following appointments and vacancies:

Ellen Byron will be Deputy National Affairs Editor, working alongside Jennifer Levitz, under Bruce Orwall. Previously, Ellen was a Deputy Corporate Coverage Chief.

Ben Fritz is now Tech Editor, AI, reporting to Jason Dean. Previously Ben was West Coast Bureau Chief for U.S. News.

David Marcelis has been promoted to Standards Editor, reporting to Elena Cherney. Previously, David was deputy chief of The Wall Street Journal’s media and marketing bureau in New York.

Jennifer Maloney has been promoted to Deputy Corporate Bureau Chief & Retail Editor, reporting to Marcelo Prince. Previously, Jennifer covered the beverage, tobacco and cannabis industries as a reporter.

Chris Otts has joined the Journal as an Autos Reporter in Detroit, reporting to Christina Rogers. Previously, Chris was a reporter for WDRB.

Jeff Morganteen has joined the Journal as Senior Supervising Producer, News. Previously, Jeff was a senior producer on CNBC.com’s digital video team handling breaking news video.

Dan Lyon, a former WSJ intern, has returned to the Journal as a Photo Editor, reporting to Meghan Petersen. Most recently, Dan was the Safety and Security Fellow at The New York Times.

Alberto Palacios has joined the Journal as Video Operations Coordinator, reporting to Kellyann Everett. Previously, Alberto was a Production Manager for HBO Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel.

Cristina Gallardo has joined Newswires in Barcelona as a reporter. She comes from Sifted, a news outlet covering startups and deeptech. Before that, Cristina was with Politico in London.

Adam Whittaker has joined the Newswires reporting desk in Barcelona. Previously, Adam was at Hanover Communications, where he was political consultant and parsed the latest developments in U.K. politics for clients such as Goldman Sachs and the London Stock Exchange.

Clare Kinloch has joined the NewsPlus team as a Platform Editor in Barcelona. Previously, Clare was a Publishing Editor for Newswires.
