The Information managing editor Laura Mandaro sent out the following to the staff:
Hi team: I’m happy to announce Erin Woo is transitioning to become a full-time social media reporter, a role that allows her to continue to drive the news cycle around Elon Musk’s Twitter makeover; find out what’s happening at Snap; and help report on TikTok during a pivotal period for the app. She’ll add to our already strong social reporting bench of Sylvia, Kaya and Juro.
Since joining us last May, Erin has jumped into the VC and startups beat with energy and a knack for getting cold sources to talk. She broke Instacart’s valuation cut and Gorillas match-making, the rush into gen AI deals, and notably, reported exclusively on Tiger Global’s returns. In November, when Musk’s Twitter takeover became the news cycle for a period of weeks, Erin dug through sources and found people who knew people. Since then, she’s led the competition with scoops on Twitter’s sagging ad revenue, subscription shortfalls and of course, continuous job cuts.
Erin will continue to help with our VC coverage for a brief transition period while we name a new reporter to join Kate and our newly expanded deals/finance team ferreting out all the wild and wooly details of private tech deals.
