Wired Middle East goal: Nuanced coverage with regional team

Carla Sertin, the head of editorial content at Wired Middle East, writes about what it’s coverage strategy will be. (Wired Middle East has joined Condé Nast’s owned portfolio operations in the region after operating the past six years by a licensee.)

Sertin writes, “That’s why we have built a network of journalists across the region, providing on-the-ground reporting by people who understand what matters in their country today and what will matter tomorrow. Rather than parachuting journalists into the Middle East, an experienced regional team allows us to provide more nuanced, accurate, and relevant reporting that reflects the complexity of life here. Our local reporting means we have access to people impacted by Egypt’s phone tax, which is stifling digital access across the nation, or the women using tech to escape domestic violence.

“It is equally important to know what questions to ask. My team asks difficult questions of tech leaders in service of building a better future, at a moment when there are more questions than answers.

“My goal is for innovators, technologists, and forward-thinkers to visit WIRED Middle East and leave not just informed, but inspired to solve the world’s biggest challenges; to build something, to question assumptions, and to engage more actively and thoughtfully with the future being created around them.”
