The following excerpt was sent out from The Washington Post’s business editor Lori Montgomery, economics editor Damian Paletta and technology editor Christina Passariello:
We’re thrilled to announce that Karly Domb Sadof is becoming the Business Desk’s first visual enterprise editor, pioneering a new role aimed at expanding our visual journalism and conceiving of innovative storytelling approaches.
An award-winning photo editor, Karly is known across the newsroom as a powerhouse of ideas and creativity. For nearly six years, she has been a key driver of visually led storytelling on the America Desk, managing photo coverage of both breaking news and enterprise.
In this key leadership role on the Business Desk, Karly will now guide visual-first storytelling around breaking news events and important lines of coverage in collaboration with Audio, Data, Design, Graphics, Photo and Video, as well as reporters and editors across business and tech. Though she reports to the business editor, she will work closely with the senior editor for visual enterprise to develop best practices for multi-disciplinary storytelling and to drive immersive journalism across the newsroom.
Karly joined The Post in 2016 from the Associated Press, where she worked as a photo editor in Bangkok and New York. She also worked for Lens, the New York Times’s photography blog. She has received several awards, including first place for online visual presentation of the pandemic in 2021.
A graduate of New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study, Karly has a master’s degree in visual and media anthropology from the Freie Universität Berlin, where her thesis focused on Instagram users in Thailand and Ukraine.
Please join us in congratulating Karly on her exciting new role. Her first day is July 5.
