It is with great sadness that I share the news that Susan Warren has died. Susan, our Dallas Bureau Chief for over a decade, did as much as anybody to build Bloomberg’s reputation in Texas. For the past three years, she worked as an admired editor for Opinion.
Tim O’Brien has already paid tribute to her in a note to all in Opinion that you can read here. Many in the wider newsroom will remember her as an unflappable editor with deep knowledge of the global energy industry who managed her dual role as bureau chief and team leader for energy with ease, warmth and compassion.
Susan joined us in 2009 from the Wall Street Journal, where she was Texas bureau chief and ran energy coverage. Before that, she was at the Houston Chronicle, where she rose from police and city hall reporter to focus on big national stories, including prison riots, plane crashes and earthquakes. She also covered the first Gulf War for the Chronicle, reporting from Jerusalem, Iraq and Damascus. Susan discovered her passion for journalism early on and was editor-in-chief of her college newspaper at the University of Houston.
