Adam Roberts has been named foreign editor at The Economist.
He is responsible for its coverage globally outside of Britain and the United States. He oversees the front half of the paper, which includes the Europe, Americas, MEA, Asia, China and International sections.
Previously he was the digital editor, based in London, and also the Midwest America correspondent, based in Chicago, where he covered politics, policy and social affairs in America. Earlier, he was the European Business and Finance correspondent based in Paris.
Prior to this he was the South Asia correspondent for The Economist, based in Delhi, where he oversaw political and general coverage from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, among other countries. Adam joined The Economist as a writer in the Foreign Department in June 1998, with a focus on developing countries and transnational issues.
From 2001 to 2005 he was the Southern Africa correspondent, based in Johannesburg. Subsequently he was the News Editor of Economist.com, in London.
He has written special reports on the Nordic countries (2003), International Migration (2008), two reports on India (2012 and 2015), and one on the American Midwest (2020).
He has written two books, “The Wonga Coup” (2006), about a mercenary coup attempt in Africa, and “India, Superfast, Primetime, Ultimate Nation” (2017).
