The Economist promotes Guest to deputy editor

Robert Guest

Robert Guest, a foreign editor at The Economist, has been appointed deputy editor.

Previously, he held the posts of US editor, business editor, Washington correspondent and Lexington columnist.

Guest covered American news and politics for The Economist and before this, covered Africa for seven years, based in London and Johannesburg. Prior to joining The Economist, he served as a Tokyo correspondent at The Daily Telegraph.

He also worked freelance in South Korea.

Guest authored “The Shackled Continent,” a book that tries to explain how Africa can prosper, and “Borderless Economics: Chinese Sea Turtles, Indian Fridges and the New Fruits of Global Capitalism,” which argues that migration makes the world brainier.

You can congratulate Guest on Twitter.
