Sacha Nauta, previously The Economist’s social affairs editor based in Washington, has been appointed its Britain editor.
The position is based in London and will oversee a Britain desk covering UK politics, economics, social affairs and more.
Nauta was social affairs editor for The Economist from 2022-2025. Previous to that she was the paper’s public policy editor. Her former roles include writing for the finance, business, international, US and Europe sections. She also worked as Executive editor for the paper, co-ordinating the editorial and commercial parts of The Economist Group.
Before joining The Economist in 2013, Nauta worked at Her Majesty’s Treasury in London, where she focused on public spending and European budget negotiations.
“I am thrilled to lead The Economist’s Britain section as Britain seeks to grow its economy and find its place in an increasingly volatile world,” said Nauta in a statement. “I look forward to working with a fantastic group of people on our Britain desk and shining a light on the team’s stellar editorial work.”
