The Economist has made some significant changes to its app, including better navigation, a weekday and weekend content lineup and increased prominence of video formats.

They form part of an ongoing program of app enhancements that will continue through 2025 and beyond.

“We are constantly listening to our audience,” said Luke Bradley-Jones, president of The Economist, in a statement. “We know that our customers engage with content differently depending on the time of day and week. To reflect this, we worked with our editorial team to craft a distinct weekday and weekend experience.

Weekday content will be led by a refreshed “In brief” carousel for quick news updates and what readers need to know during a busy week. Other updates emphasize the use of short, vertical videos featuring The Economist’s journalists.

Weekend programming including must-read stories, profiles, 1843 pieces, cultural articles, games, and archive material.

There is also an updated tab more closely aligned with the print layout for ease of browsing and reading the latest weekly edition.
