Neal Carruth has been hired by Silver Tribe Media, a management and production company to be its general manager.

Carruth’s hiring is part of a broader effort to grow its footprint in news, tech, and personal development content.

“The news business is undergoing an incredible transformation right now,” said Carruth in a statement. “I’m so excited to help talent, brands, and properties build in this fast-changing digital media environment.”

He has been executive vice president and general manager of the Freakonomics radio network for the past three years. While there, he relaunched its YouTube channel.

Before that, Carruth spent more than two decades at NPR, including running its business news desk and the “Planet Money” podcast. For nearly a decade, Carruth was the primary NPR executive supporting the “Planet Money” franchise, which saw tremendous growth in audience and revenue during his time working with the team.

He was also senior director of on-demand news programming and managing director of the New York bureau.

Carruth’s business journalism has received recognition, including a George Foster Peabody Award, a Gerald Loeb Award, a Sigma Delta Chi Award, and an Edward R. Murrow Award.
