Cromwell Schubarth, who has covered venture capital and startups for the Silicon Valley Business Journal, is leaving after 18 years.
Schubarth writes, “Imagine my surprise when OpenAI’s ChatGPT told me recently that I died six years ago, leaving behind a wife and family I don’t know.
“Or when it told me that I recently won a 40 Under 40 award as ‘Best Bay Area Business Journalist’ from a journalism group that doesn’t exist.
“Neither of those things are true, so I am confident that I can proceed with plans to retire this week from the daily business of covering news that has been paying my bills for nearly 50 years.
“Nearly 18 of those years have been with the Silicon Valley Business Journal, where I’ve had the privilege of covering what’s happened in the most important hub of startup and venture activity in the world. The rest of my career was back in the Boston area, which was a more important tech rival to Silicon Valley when I started out as a journalist in the 1970s than it is now.”
