The Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing announced Wednesday the 144 recipients of its 30th annual Best in Business Awards, honoring excellence in business journalism from 2024.
The Best in Business Awards attracted 1,103 entries from 181 news organizations, ranging from international, national and regional news outlets to specialized business publications. The awards are made possible by the 150 judges who volunteered their time to support excellence in business journalism. Thank you to all the judges.
“It’s inspiring to see hundreds of great submissions to this contest, and it was as difficult as ever to pick the winners out of an extremely competitive field,” said Joanna Ossinger, co-chair of the Best in Business Awards and markets editor at Bloomberg News. “At a time of rapid changes and challenges in our industry, it’s wonderful to see so many strong entries.”
Individual journalists were recognized for their exceptional coverage in SABEW’s Best Range of Work award, where they submitted work across the broad spectrum of content platforms and categories. The winners are Ben Cohen from The Wall Street Journal, Mike Hughlett from The Minnesota Star Tribune, and Matthew Herper from STAT.

Scott Wenger, Best in Business Awards co-chair and senior economics editor at the World Bank, said, “At an unnerving time in media, it’s quite heartening to see many relatively new news outlets and many legacy organizations producing such first-rate content. The world urgently needs this kind of journalism, and it’s always a privilege for us at SABEW to honor it.”
