Desiree Hanford, assistant professor and director of academic integrity and appeals at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications, was installed as the new president of the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing during its annual conference board meeting on April 22 at the Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Hanford succeeds Glenn Hall.
“Business stories – money, markets, economics – impact people’s lives every day and telling those stories in an unbiased and straightforward manner for audiences from Main Street to Wall is as important as ever,” Hanford said in a statement. “I’m humbled and honored to serve as president of SABEW, an organization whose mission is to support and provide resources for business journalists. I look forward to working with fellow SABEW members to enhance and diversify the organization’s outreach and build upon SABEW’s legacy of outstanding work.
In addition to Hanford, SABEW’s 2023-2024 officer ladder is comprised off vice president James Nelson, business editor at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and instructor at Marquette University, and secretary/treasurer Pia Sarkar, business news editor at the Associated Press.
