All —
Past experience tells me that filling Mo’s role as deputy is going to take awhile.
So I’m writing to say that starting Monday Joe Plambeck will assume many of Mo’s responsibilities for the time being.
Joe will oversee the day-to-day running of the report, ensuring that we have everything covered, that everybody – including me – knows what they are doing and making sure our stories are getting the attention they deserve.
I anticipate that he will be doing this for a bunch of months.
As you know, Joe is super well suited to step into this gig. He is known and trusted inside and outside the department and is an excellent reader and bulletproofer of stories.
And he knows how this place works. He joined The Times in 2004 or 2005, depending on how you look at it, and has worked in multiple departments. He pretty much created our disinfo coverage and has worked in tech and media since joining Biz more than 15 years ago.
Assuming the power doesn’t go to his head, I’m anticipating that this will be a pretty smooth transition. During this period, Erin Mershon will be steering media and we expect to shortly bring in an editor to help her.
This has been such a newsy year. Biz has aggressively covered a host of global and national developments that have cropped up unexpectedly. We’ve also kept our enterprise and features coming to enlighten, explain and delight. Pui-Wing, Ashwin, Jason, Rich and I appreciate your incredibly hard and smart work and patience as we make this transition together and continue to grow.
