Brian O’Keefe

New York Times deputy managing editor Sam Dolnick and Dealbook founder Andrew Ross Sorkin sent out the following to the staff:

We’re thrilled to share that Brian O’Keefe has joined DealBook as our managing editor. He will be working closely with Andrew and the entire DealBook team, as well as with the Business desk, to help grow and shape the franchise across our newsletters, events and audio/video/social efforts.

Brian joins us after three years as executive editor at Esquire, where he oversaw numerous cover stories and helped earn the magazine its first Pulitzer Prize and a National Magazine Award for General Excellence (Service and Lifestyle).

Before Esquire, Brian spent two decades at Fortune, rising from reporter to deputy editor and eventually acting editor in chief. He guided Fortune’s investing coverage and oversaw production of the Fortune 500, while reporting stories from six continents on topics from child labor in cocoa farming in West Africa to the iron ore boom in Australia.

Brian was also a longtime moderator at Fortune events, co-chaired a number of its Brainstorm conferences, and co-hosted more than 40 episodes of the “Brainstorm” tech podcast.

A Birmingham, Ala., native and lifelong Alabama football fan, Brian also happens to be a Liverpool supporter and a bassist.

Please join us in giving Brian a very warm welcome to The Times.
