MLex, FTCWatch staffers form union

The journalists at MLex and FTCWatch have formed a union and are seeking recognition from parent company LexisNexis.

The MLex Guild has more than 20 members and will be a unit of the Washington-Baltimore News Guild, which is part of the Communications Workers of America. It has employees based in Washington, San Francisco and New York.

MLex covers regulatory, mergers and acquisitions, antitrust and data privacy stories.

The effort received unanimous support from eligible employees. LexisNexis is also the parent of Law360, whose employees unionized in 2016.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
