The Hillsdale Daily News, a Gannett paper in Michigan, is cutting its stock listings.
Executive editor Sarah Leach writes, “That’s been the case with financial market information for decades now, and most daily newspapers have long since dropped stock tables because they are outdated well before they reach our readers. The Hillsdale Daily News will join them as of Monday, when we discontinue ‘The Market in Review.’
“We’ll use this space for more content from our colleagues in the USA TODAY Network throughout the country who are making sense of market changes, important company news and shifts and trends in the economy.
“Stock prices are obsolete the moment the market opens the next trading day, but local coverage and thoughtful news about the economy can have lasting impact on your daily life.
“For example, sharp-eyed readers will notice we’ve returned to publishing monthly stories about real estate listing trends in Hillsdale County, and we’ve just added monthly coverage of actual sales — which provide a different look at the market because they’re based on what homes sold for, not just what buyers are asking.”
