Kansas City Biz Journal promotes one, hires two

Leslie Collins

Leslie Collins, a reporter at the Kansas City Business Journal, has taken on the role of specials editor. She joined the newspaper in February 2014 as a web producer.

In her new role, Collins will oversee the Journal’s major programs, including Women Who Mean Business, Champions of Business and Best Places to Work. She will continue to contribute to news coverage, focused on the entrepreneur and small business beat.

Collins has a B.A. from MidAmerica Nazarene University in Kansas.

Grace Mayer

Grace Mayer joined from Business Insider, where she was a retail, tech and trending news fellow. In her new role, she will take many of Leslie’s beats, including covering the tech/biotech beat. She covered labor, college leadership, Title IX, and campus culture for The Chronicle of Higher Education as an intern.

There, Mayer won the 2023 David W. Miller Award for Young Journalists.

Mayer has a B.S. from Boston College Carroll School of Management.

Sydnie Savage

Lastly, Sydnie Savage has joined as a reporter to cover commercial real estate and the architecture/engineering/construction beat. She joined from WDAF-TV Ch. 4, a FOX-affiliate in Kansas City, where she held the posts of digital reporter and digital producer.

Savage also worked as a multimedia journalist at both KPTM-TV Ch. 42, a Fox- and CW-affiliate in Omaha, and at KQTV-TV Ch. 2, an ABC-affiliate in St, Joseph, Mo.

Savage has a B.S. from Missouri Western State University.
