Insider has hired Louise Ridley as a senior editor on the UK business team.
She is currently on maternity leave and will join Insider as a senior editor in April 2022. Ridley was previously a senior journalist at BBC Newsbeat.
She has also worked at special projects editor at HuffPost UK and news editor for longform and special projects for BuzzFeed UK, and worked at publications including BBC Focus magazine, the Evening Standard and Campaign magazine.
At BBC Newsbeat, the BBC’s flagship brand for young people, Ridley commissioned features, long reads and radio pieces on the BBC News website, Radio 1, 1Xtra and BBC Asian Network, reaching 14 million people a week, primarily aged 16-24.
She ran cross-platform projects on topics including young people’s Covid grief, how to survive a pandemic as a young entrepreneur and how to cope with mental health problems as a young person at work – reported on live radio from a Salford building site.
She managed Newsbeat’s forward planning operation and managed collaborations with teams like Panorama, BBC Business, 5Live and BBC Three.
