Matt Peterson, the politics, policy and ideas editor at Barron’s is leaving after six years for a new opportunity.
He created and oversaw the publication’s commentary section, which features guest writers on a broad range of markets and economics topics.
Peterson previously was a senior editor at The Atlantic, where he created the magazine’s first digital membership program, The Masthead, and led a team of journalists who reported exclusive stories for members. The project helped build the foundation for The Atlantic’s digital subscriptions model.
He also started a residency program at The Atlantic to identify and support early-career journalists, which produced long-form reporting on criminal justice, race and inequality.
Peterson began his career covering global affairs. Prior to The Atlantic, he was chief of staff at the research firm Eurasia Group and, before that, managing editor of the digital publication World Politics Review. In 2009-2010 he was a research fellow at Yale University’s MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies.
He has degrees from the London School of Economics and Tufts University.
