New York Times business editor Ellen Pollock sent out the following:

We’re delighted to welcome Kalley Huang back to The New York Times. She started this week as a tech reporter in San Francisco covering Apple.

Kalley joins from The Information, where she most recently wrote about Meta, artificial intelligence and social media. She often landed scoops and inside details, so much so that Mike Isaac once said her stories made him sweat. She also used the Meta beat to jump into broader stories, including a piece on how OpenAI was being “Meta-fied.” And she has worked on products such as a premium newsletter.

“Kalley’s beat reporting on Meta routinely made me jealous,” Mike said. “I am deeply relieved I can now work alongside her instead of against her!”

Before The Information, Kalley was a Times fellow who wrote about youth and technology. She memorably reported on how universities were retooling their teaching to handle the arrival of ChatGPT, chronicled the emergence of TikTok as a search tool for Gen Z, and covered how 20-year-old digital cameras had become the hottest Gen Z gadget.

Kalley knows the San Francisco bureau and the tech reporters well. We are thrilled to have her return.
