Rafat Ali, founder of travel industry site Skift, spoke with Dylan Byers of Puck’s “The Grill Room” podcast to chart the rise of his business, which he’s dubbed “the Bloomberg of travel.”
Ali, who previously started PaidContent.org, broke down how Skift, which was founded 13 years ago, has evolved to generate upward of $25 million in revenue with 20 percent profit margins. It has 95 staffers in 16 different countries. “We cover a global industry in a very global way,” said Ali.
He said his entrepreneurial focus is more about influence than scale. “How many services can I provide to Marriott, or AirBnB or Delta?” he said.
“By the dint on our reporting, we’re going to make a mark on this world,” added Ali. But Skift also provides other services such as events, research and executive search for companies.
