Heatmap News hires Kaufman to write newsletter

Alexander Kaufman

Heatmap News has hired Alexander Kaufman to write its flagship daily morning newsletter AM Briefing.

He previously was a senior reporter covering energy and climate change at HuffPost before leaving via a buyout earlier this year.

A two-time winner of the SEAL Environmental Journalism Award and a 2024 recipient of the Covering Climate Now Journalism Award, he has filed stories from the Arctic and the Amazon, Europe and East Asia.

He is a regular guest on the BBC World Service’s “Business Matters” and has provided expert commentary on MSNBC, NPR and broadcasters around the world.

Before joining HuffPost in 2014, he worked for The Boston Globe, the International Business Times and The Wrap.

Kaufman is a graduate of Emerson College.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
