Former Wall Street Journal editor Matt Murray is joining independent newsletter “News Items” as a contributing editor.
“News Items” covers “a world in disarray,” financial news, advanced technologies and science.
Murray will write the new weekly “Matt Murray’s Week in Review'”newsletter, recapping the week’s major stories in business and finance every Friday for subscribers.
Murray was the editor-in-chief of The Journal and Dow Jones Newswires from June 2018 to February 2023, responsible for all global newsgathering and editorial operations. Prior to that role, Murray served in a number of roles including national editor, deputy managing editor and deputy editor-in-chief. He joined Dow Jones & Co. in 1994 as a reporter in the Pittsburgh bureau.
As deputy editor, Murray oversaw the newsroom transformation called WSJ2020, a project to develop a mobile-first strategy, promote multiplatform digital journalism and increase diversity in the Journal’s ranks.
Murray holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in journalism from Northwestern University.
