Crain’s Chicago founding editor Metzger dies at 74

Mark Metzger, a founding editor at Crain’s Chicago Business, died Aug. 30 at the age of 74.

Metzger spent 12 years as a journalist, including stints as a prize-winning daily newspaper reporter and as an Associated Press newsman.

At Crain Communications in Chicago, he was a founding editor of Crain’s Chicago Business, one of the first local business newspapers. He left Inc. magazine as a senior editor in 1985 to enter the public relations business.

Metzger worked at Crain from 1977 to 1982. The first issue of Crain’s Chicago was in June 1978.
