The Colorado Springs Independent and the Colorado Springs Business Journal have been sold for an undisclosed price.
The publications have been acquired by Colorado Media Group, owned by Dirk R. Hobbs. The company also owns North magazine and the Southern Colorado Business Forum & Digest.
The former owners acquired the publications in February 2024. Local entrepreneurs purchased the Independent and the Colorado Springs Business Journal, through their new joint venture, Pikes Peak Media Co.
In a release, the former owners acknowledged that it “became increasingly challenging to communicate their vision and values through the platforms as they had intended. Ultimately, the alignment between the leadership and the editorial direction of the papers no longer reflected the voices they sought to represent.”
The new ownership will assume responsibility for ongoing operations effective immediately.
