Rooney moved to San Francisco in 2019, where she expanded her tech coverage, adding venture capital to her beat, and reported on major market and industry stories, including the GameStop trading frenzy, the rise and fall of FTX and later, Sam Bankman-Fried’s criminal trial.
In 2024, she added coverage of OpenAI and Anthropic as well as Amazon and continues to report on the latest developments in AI.
