Longtime CNBC anchor Tyler Mathisen is joining the University of Chicago.

Mathisen is now a distinguished fellow at the University of Chicago’s Graham School of Continuing Liberal and Professional Studies. He’s helping to organize a lecture and conversation series called “Enduring Excellence” that will debut in the upcoming 2025-26 academic year.

“We’re building a curriculum of live lectures and discussions, in person and online, on how and why certain individuals build and sustain careers (and lives) of excellence not just over a period of years but over the span of decades,” he wrote on LinkedIn. “I will serve as the principal interviewer of executives, performers, coaches and more who have demonstrated enduring excellence over time.”

Mathisen stepped away from his role as “Power Lunch” co-anchor in late December 2024.

He also anchored two of CNBC’s longest-running franchises, “Power Lunch” and “Closing Bell,” as well as “Nightly Business Report,” for which he won a SABEW for Best Radio/TV Show in 2014. Before that, he served as managing editor of business news.

Mathisen was with CNBC for 27 years.
