
Matt Peterson will be joining CNBC as a senior economics writer on March 2.
Peterson is an award-winning journalist who covers public policy, economics and financial markets.
In his new role based in Englewood Cliffs, N.J., he will draw on his knowledge and sourcing to deliver step-back analysis and exclusives on policy and the broader economy.
Most recently, he served as politics, policy and ideas editor at Barron’s, where his scoops on the Trump administration and the Federal Reserve drove national news cycles. He has also worked at The Atlantic, the consulting firm Eurasia Group and Yale University’s MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies.
Peterson holds a bachelor’s degree from Tufts University and a master’s in international relations from the London School of Economics.
In 2024, he was part of the Barron’s team that won SABEW’s General Excellence Award and was a finalist for the Loeb Award for commentary.
