Cerrilli, associate editor of Pittsburgh Biz Times, dies at 68

Richard Cerrilli

Richard Cerrilli, the associate editor of the Pittsburgh Business Times, died unexpectedly on March 13 at the age of 68.

Ethan Lott of the Business Times writes, “Prior to returning to his native Pittsburgh in 1991, he worked in a variety of publishing positions in Los Angeles, New York and Puerto Rico. He graduated from Monaca High School in 1971 and attended West Virginia University, where he was editor of the university student newspaper.

“Seven years ago, Richard returned to his roots at the newspaper, moving from the marketing office back into an editing and writing role as associate editor, handling special features and coordinating the award and recognition reports the Business Times conducts each year, such as Best Places to Work, Women of Influence and the Fast 50. He started at the Business Times as production director.

“Many newspapers have someone who ‘remembers when.’ In an office that still includes seven colleagues who worked with him for more than 20 years, Richard was that person. Not only did he remember when newspapers involved paste up and glue, but he could go back generations further. He was a member of the Westchester Chappel antique letterpress club, hand-producing the July entry in its annual calendar for 2022 while using equipment that was vital for centuries before electricity and modern presses.”
