CBS Stations hires Quraishi as national consumer correspondent

CBS Stations has hired Ash-har Quraishi as a national consumer correspondent.

He will be part of the CBS News and Stations team at the company’s recently launched CBS Local News Innovation Lab.

“We want to prepare our audiences for what’s coming around the corner by explaining the macro and micro forces impacting consumers today,” said Quraishi in a message to Talking Biz News.

Quraishi most recently served as a national correspondent for the E.W. Scripps Co. Previously, Quraishi was a news reporter and fill-in anchor for WMAQ-TV in Chicago. Before that, he was the chief Midwest correspondent for Al Jazeera America.

Quraishi also reported for WTTW-TV in Chicago and contributed to the PBS NewsHour. He was also CNN’s Islamabad bureau chief/correspondent, based in Pakistan. In 2011, Quraishi co-produced the award-winning documentary “Fordson” about the Arab American experience in post 9/11 America.

His work has been recognized with numerous awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association, Investigative Reporters & Editors, the Society of Professional Journalists, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the Press Club of Atlantic City and the Chicago Headline Club.

Quraishi has been awarded a CINE Golden Eagle award, a Peter Lisagor award, four National Headliners, and in 2010 was an IRE Award finalist.

He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
