Business Insider has promoted Melia Russell to senior tech correspondent.

Russell is based in New England and writes news and features about startups and venture capital, focused on growth-stage companies, the funding deals that investors are clamoring to get into, and corporate culture.

Her work has uncovered the mysterious disappearance of a Utah tech entrepreneur, detailed the falling out of cofounders at Modern Health, and delved into the secret club that prepares young CEOs to take over the world. She takes readers inside the workplaces of high-flying startups such as Spring HealthCoinbaseExpensify, and Clubhouse.

She started as an intern at Business Insider in 2013. After five years, Russell joined the business desk at the San Francisco Chronicle and covered the region’s talent wars, tech culture, and work immigration. She returned to Insider in 2019.

She has degrees from Syracuse University in magazine journalism and information management and technology
