Bloomberg Industry Group and Bloomberg Correspondents union members have reached a new contract agreement with management, securing big wins for Guild members.
The new contract, which came after two months of negotiations, guarantees:
- Just cause protections – Management attempted to roll back these rights for editorial employees, which would have left workers vulnerable to being fired without a fair process. The Guild successfully defended these protections, ensuring members cannot be dismissed without just cause.
- Increased compensation – Members secured wage increases as well as ratification and retention bonuses.
- AI job protections – The contract includes a consent requirement if management attempts to use AI to impersonate employees or replicate their likeness. It also establishes transparency requirements, mandating that AI-generated material be clearly labeled and that the company disclose any new AI use cases affecting workers.
“We built on the work of other unions that have been fighting for AI protections, like the PEN Guild, which has strong AI language in their contract,” said Rebecca Rainey, chair of the Bloomberg Industry Guild, in a statement. “These protections are essential for any news union operating in the modern economy.”
