Alexia Fernandez Campbell has been hired by Bloomberg Industry Group for its investigations team.
She will focus on government accountability.
Campbell was most recently at the Center for Public Integrity. She previously worked as a staff writer for Vox, The Atlantic, National Journal and the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Her 2020 investigation of the federal government’s failure to respond to the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes prompted members of Congress to urge the U.S. Department of Justice to take action, leading to passage of the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act.
A documentary she co-produced with Scripps News, which revealed widespread sexual assault of student truck drivers, prompted a California law enforcement agency to reopen a rape investigation. The project was honored with a Gracie Award from the Alliance for Women in Media.
Campbell’s investigative work has also been honored by the Society of Professional Journalists, The Association for Business Journalists and the Asian American Journalists Association.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from the University of Tennessee and a master’s degree in journalism and public affairs from American University.
