Bloomberg News managing editor Sarah Frier sent out the following to the staff:
Hi everyone!
I’m thrilled to announce that Samantha Oltman will join our team in San Francisco as an editor for our AI, venture capital and startups coverage. She will work closely with Seth Fiegerman and Anne Vandermey to support reporters across Global Tech in landing major scoops, high-impact projects, and smart daily coverage.
Samantha is very well suited to the role, with a history of leadership positions in tech journalism. Oltman most recently helped launch the Guardian’s reporting on AI and the future of work. Previously, she was co-founder of Good Luck Media, with an investigative climate podcast Sabotage that was named by Apple Podcasts as one of the best shows of 2025. For three years, she was editor-in-chief of Recode and an editorial director at Vox. Among other projects, she executive-produced Land of the Giants, a podcast that analyzed Big Tech’s growing power.
Her interests include running half marathons, learning Brazilian Portuguese, tarot and training her dog to do unnecessary things, like whisper on command.
Please join me in welcoming Sam when she starts June 15!
