Bloomberg News Washington bureau chief Peggy Collins, managing editor Mario Parker and domestic policy editor Sarah Halzak sent out the following on Wednesday:

We are thrilled to announce several new members of our domestic policy team.

Liam Knox will join the Washington bureau as education reporter. Liam comes to Bloomberg from Inside Higher Ed, where he has been covering admissions, financial aid and federal higher education policy and has delivered a mix of scoops and agenda-setting enterprise.

Liam will report on the Trump administration’s wide-ranging effort to reshape the education landscape, including its bid to dismantle the Department of Education and its broadside against universities. He will also chronicle federal initiatives on student debt and moves by lawmakers in Washington and beyond to mold K-12 schools’ policies and curricula.

Liam is well-equipped to break news in these policy areas and brings smart ideas for showing readers how decisions in Washington are rippling out to students, educators and the global economy.

Katy O’Donnell has been named housing reporter. In a decade of reporting for Politico, where she most recently served as senior reporter covering financial services, Katy has built deep expertise on housing policy and the regulators and agencies that influence it.

Katy will cover the administration’s plans for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, digging into efforts to take them public and explaining the potentially vast consequences for markets and consumers. She will rove far beyond the GSEs, too, with stories about the affordability crisis and how federal spending cuts affect US housing supply.

Through scoops, sharp analysis and smart features, Katy will own this coverage area and illuminate for readers its enormous economic and political stakes.

Liam and Katy start in mid-July and will be joined on the new team by our colleagues Gregory Korte and Ted Mann.

Gregory will continue his distinctive, data-driven coverage of how agencies including OMB, OPM and GSA are moving to transform government in Trump’s vision.

Ted will shine a light on how Trump’s policies are affecting Corporate America and its lobbying campaigns and will build on his reporting on how federal government cuts threaten the budgets — and local economies — of states, cities and towns.

In their time in the Washington bureau, Gregory and Ted have established themselves as authoritative subject-matter experts, elegant writers and generous collaborators. In other words: They’re just the kind of journalists you want on the ground floor when creating a new team.

We’re also delighted that Bill Faries will return to the DC Bureau this summer as a senior editor to help us build out coverage of the Trump administration’s impact on domestic policies —and jump into other news or projects of the day. Bill joins us after several years editing the biggest stories in Asia for the hub in Singapore. Prior roles over his 19 years at Bloomberg include serving as bureau chief in Miami and Buenos Aires as well as team leader of the National Security crew in Washington.
