The Financial Times is looking for a seasoned journalist with a track record of scoops and smart features to join the FT’s San Francisco bureau on one of the newspaper’s most dynamic beats.
This person will lead our coverage of Meta at a critical time as Mark Zuckerberg bets the company’s future on artificial intelligence. Zuckerberg – who has reinvented himself politically as “Maga Mark” – has hundreds of billions at his disposal, but faces long odds to catch more advanced rivals and establish Meta on the AI frontier.
The role will also involve covering other newsworthy tech companies including Elon Musk’s X and the future of ByteDance’s US TikTok business following its deal with Donald Trump.
We want a journalist who can get inside these companies to break news and tell colorful stories about their powerful founders during a pivotal moment for Silicon Valley.
This person will work closely with our growing team of tech, finance and deals reporters in San Francisco, New York, London and China, as well as the FT’s wider network of 700 reporters in 40 countries. Collaboration, sharing tips and bylines are essential.

Salary range
A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $95,000 to $145,000. To ensure pay fairness, the successful candidate will be offered a salary within the estimated salary range based on a number of considerations including but not limited to: skill set; experience and training; certifications; and other business and organizational needs.
