
Robert Blanchard, a longtime journalist who was business and financial editor of the St. Louis Globe-Democrat before it closed, died April 17 at the age of 92.
An obituary states, “He served 31 years in the Air Force, including active-duty tours in Vietnam and Japan as a transport pilot. He flew 75 combat missions in Vietnam and was awarded a Bronze Star. He retired from the Air Force Reserve in 1985.
“He joined the Globe-Democrat, a major metropolitan daily newspaper, as a reporter in 1957 and was business and financial editor when the newspaper folded in 1984. Later that year he became public relations director of the St. Louis Regional Commerce and Growth Association, editing its monthly newsletter, coordinating special events and also directing the chamber’s military affairs committee. He retired in 1995.”
