Barr named global tech editor at Insider

Alistair Barr

Matt Turner, editor in chief of business news at Insider, sent out the following on Tuesday:

Hello!

I’m happy to announce that we’re promoting Alistair Barr to be our global technology editor.

Ali joined Insider in May from Bloomberg, where he was a Big Tech Team Leader. He previously worked at The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Thomson Reuters, and MarketWatch, where he won a Gerald Loeb Award in 2007.

He has quickly gotten up to speed on all things Insider. He’s shown himself to be an excellent story editor, a strong manager, and a talented recruiter. Our coverage of Amazon, Meta, the gig economy companies, and more under his leadership speaks for itself.

In addition:

Monica Melton will be joining as Tech Companies Editor. She joins us from The Plug, where she was managing editor. She previously worked at Forbes.

Leena Rao has joined as an editor on the venture capital and startups desk, working with Julie Bort while Vishal Persaud is on parental leave. She previously worked at Fortune and TechCrunch.

We now have tech reporters in three continents, covering startups and VC, Big Tech, enterprise tech, and features. We’re doing great work, but there’s still so much more opportunity ahead.

Congratulations Ali! And please welcome Monica and Leena.

Matt
