
Doris Barnhart, a longtime staff member for the Society of American Business Editing and Writing when it was located at the University of Missouri, died Feb. 19 at the age of 89.
An obituary states, “Doris also held a significant leadership role with the Society of American Business Editors and Writers, helping guide the organization through a period of national growth and transition. Her administrative leadership strengthened membership operations, conference planning, and organizational structure at a pivotal time. Her work earned her formal recognition for Outstanding Administrative Service and distinguished service to journalism education. In 2013, she was honored with a lifetime achievement award recognizing decades of unwavering dedication to journalism and education in the state of Missouri.”
Barnhart was a regular attendee at SABEW annual meetings from 1985 to 1999. She also oversaw the organization’s bank account and membership records, and she served as administrative assistant to longtime executive director Jimmy Gentry.
