Christian Baesler, who has led Business Insider on an interim basis since June, will take on the role as chief executive officer permanently.

He replaces Barbara Peng, who departed earlier tis year.

Since stepping into the role, he has  established a strategic plan to build franchises around journalists who produce exclusive, must-read reporting across platforms, including events and video. This approach is designed to create new ways for partners to connect with Business Insider’s young audience.

“Christian combines a strong journalistic background with commercial success and a proven ability to execute,” said Claudius Senst, executive board member for publishing at Axel Springer, in a statement. “He has a clear strategy for unlocking the full potential of Business Insider’s journalism, audience and brand. We are delighted he will stay on permanently to lead the company into its next chapter, and we are confident in its long-term success.”

Germany-based Axel Springer is the parent company of Business Insider.

“We have one of the largest and youngest cross-platform audiences in business journalism,” said Baesler in a statement. “There is a huge opportunity to better monetize that scale while also building focused franchises that make us essential for professional audiences across mediums. I am convinced this team will succeed, and I am thrilled to be building the next phase of Business Insider.”

He began his career as a reporter in Germany before spending more than a decade at Bauer Media Group, where he built and expanded digital businesses across international markets.

Baesler later served as chief operating officer of BuzzFeed and chief executive officer of Complex, helping drive record revenue growth and profitability. Before becoming CEO of Business Insider, he advised Axel Springer on strategy and investments.

Baesler shared more about his vision for Business Insider in a note to employees published here.
