Meredith Klein of Meredith and the Media interviewed Andrew Edgecliffe-Johnson, Semafor’s CEO editor, about his job.

Here is an excerpt:

For the past year-and-a-half, you’ve been at Semafor as the CEO editor. You profile CEOs weekly on the site, as well as write The CEO Signal newsletter, which is a weekly guide to the ideas, leaders, and companies redefining global business. What’s driving your coverage of CEOs, and what are the prerequisites for a brand’s CEO to be covered?

  • We’re prioritizing the people who run the world’s leading companies, but also executives who have handled some of the vast array of challenges that CEOs face unusually well.
  • Our core audience for The CEO Signal is CEOs themselves. This is the big differentiator: my weekly email bulletin is an invitation-only product, so I spend every day thinking about: What can I provide to CEOs themselves that’s going to be valuable to them in that specific role?
  • I’m looking for the people who have case studies to share that are going to travel to that wide CEO audience. That could be anything from how people are dealing with the latest geopolitical volatility, to how they’re handling AI disruption, to the perennial questions of how do you work with your board, build a great senior leadership team, or inspire your employees to grow and innovate.
